Jobs as chef and kitchen staff.
Working as a Kitchen Team member for 4 years at various places since the begining of my adult life, has helped me to earn life experience, learn some culinary skills and finance my studies. From the kitchen of an English pub to 5 star Hotel, passing through mexican and ambient restaurants, the skills that I learned are diverse:
– Kitchen and bussines management:
Cooking, cleaning and organising all the aspects of the kitchen such as: controlling and arranging the products places of the fridge (based on the food safety principles), counting the inventory stock and estimating the quantity of products going in an out.
Placing orders of product from suppliers, deciding what to buy and how much.
– Training new chefs to learn the task procedure.
– Costumer service: Working extra days in the front house by serving direcly to costumers.
Life guarding and first aids
During the summers, I also worked as a swimming pool lifeguard. For that I had to take a first aids and water rescuing course.
During the shifts I had to:
– Look out for the safety and security in the water, and make sure that the rules are being followed.
– Take care of the machinery of the swimming pool (cleaning and mantainment).
– Take care of the conditions of the water (cleanliness, ph, chlorine levels, etc.)
Volunteering in Ghana.
During the summer of 2014, I participated in the project EVANG-Ghana (End Violence Against Next Generation) as a volunteer by spending a month in Ghana, giving clases of basic mathematics to childer of different ages and helping to prevent the violence exerted on the children by the other kinds.
This experience has provided me the perspective that gives you meeting a culture that is significantly different from my hometown one. Also, being able to help in such a project has been highly fulfilling.
